An Evaluation of crushing performance of a Boride layer formed on high strength wear resistant steel

Abstract Boronizing treatment on the surface of wear-resistant steel can both improve hardness and abrasion resistance layer reduce difference between boride substrate, which also greatly crush performance effeciently prevent occurrence brittle fragile boronizing in service process. In this paper, a without impurities was fabricated high strength wear resistant (HSWRS) by solid powder treatment. The boriding behaviors HSWRS sample, including phase composition, microstructure, micro-hardness, crushing were investigated comparison with those 45 carbon borided at 1050 °C for 5 h. results showed that treated covered homogeneous layer. mainly composeded Fe 2 B, V B 3 , CrB MC, M C. highest micro-hardness value about 1525 HV took gradient distribution from to center, finally reduced substrate. Compared steel, samples exhibit similar toughness, but improved performance.
